Hi Michele

Check with the owner of the apartment if fibre wifi is installed. If so you may be able to access it with the cost embedded in or added to the rent.

If not, and you're going to be there for a year or more, go to the Meo/Nos/Vodafone shop in Vila Real de Santo António and sign a contract.  Allow a few days for installation. You'll need a Portuguese bank account and a "NIF" (tax) number to set up the contract.

If you're only going be in the apartment for a shorter period, you can get a "ZTE" box in one of the Indian or Chinese shops in VRSA for about €35, and put in a data sim card from your preferred wifi provider.  Do not buy the ZTE box from your mobile provider or it will be "locked" to that provider and it won't operate outside Portugal.

This has an effective wifi range of about 5 metres and is adequate for Zoom, provided the incoming signal is good.  It is rechargeable - holds its charge for about 6-8 hours - so you can take it with you and have mobile broadband wherever you are, including outside of Portugal. The ZTE box is about the size of a 20-pack of cigarettes so it easily fits in your pocket.

Good luck
