Hi 👋 everyone,

Myself, husband and two well behaved dogs are at the beginning of our journey to relocate to the Algarve 😁

We are looking for any advice and recommendations:

For a D2 visa

NIF number

Bank account

Solicitor - English

We are very keen to get the ball rolling but looking for recommendation on the above as it’s easy to get overwhelmed with information online. We have already paid a solicitor 120 euros for a 30 mins video chat which basically didn’t tell us what we already knew and her English wasn’t great so feeling a bit ripped off!

We are so excited about the move and I know it wont be a quick process. Any help at all would be much appreciated 😁

Many Thanks

Carol

Hi. I used a solicitor to get a NIF number but there are financial advisors who can do it for you such as Sovereign and many small companies.

It sounds to me is going for a D2 visa you could do with a financial/tax advisor. A solicitor is mainly useful when you get to the legal bits of the business or house buying, not necessarily at the start of your journey.

Once you have a NIF you can get a Portuguese bank account. It’s pretty easy, I just chose a bank and walked in.

It looks to me like your best bet would be to get Googling - best bank account for you, best financial help etc. There is no one answer, read all the expat forums and google away, some info will be inaccurate but you just have to wade through to get the info you want I think.

Re a solicitor maybe an idea to decide where you are going to buy/set up your business and go for someone local to that area? Good luck!

Thank you so much for taking the time out to reply 😁 We have been online a lot trying to find out as much information as possible and heading to Portugal in the next month. Like you say there is no one answer for it all but timing is crucial when it comes to visa applications. Many thanks again 😁
