Anyone wanting to re-matriculate their car to have Portuguese plates should contact Ricardo at [email protected] (yes, iNport, not iMport). He and Grace sorted out my Spanish to Portuguese rematriculation in a couple of weeks after I'd spent ages failing to get lawyers or garages to advise me on how to do so. Highly recommended.

Thanks, John Anthony, and I'm glad it worked out OK for you.

However, I'm guessing that there are a number of factors that influence the price of Matriculation e.g. age of car to be matriculated. I have a German-registered BMW 22 years old but it has had so little mileage that it's still "a pup"! Even its body (It's a female!) is rust-free and perfect. As you can guess, because of its age it's worth nothing on the open-market in Germany but matriculation would cost at least €5,000 in the Algarve!!!

Any thoughts please?

Hi Jazz. Our Quasqai is 7 yrs old, 50,000 kms. Top of the range, automatic gearbox. Cost €3,400 euros import tax, €1,000 fee to agent. In my case, worth every penny. Why not talk to Ricardo, he can tell you what the tax would be before you commit? Mob. 910 996 600 or 965 084 828. Worth a try?

Good luck John.

In your first year of being a resident you can import/matriculate one car free of the import tax - after that - import tax applies hence the reason to use a company such as gbinport who understand the rules!
