Has anyone had any experience of using Beech as a hedging material - either normal or purple.

We are just about to start building a new house and I'm looking for a slow growing hedge that looks good & brings the birds in.

It would be great to hear the birds in the morning & not a hedge trimmer buzzing away.

We have recently had new patio doors installed on 3 balconies and 2 windows in our townhouse in Meia Praia, Lagos and 3 of the locking mechanisms do not work - but the builder has refused to give us the name of the  supplier or the guarantee, and has effectively disappeared. Does anyone know if it is possible to retrofit locks/handles made by a different manufacturer to the original.

I am looking for complete a first aid course, preferably in English.  Are there any due to start?  I live in Mexilhoeira Grande near Lagos but would be willing to travel.  I have completed it before but need to renew my certificate.
