We are moving to Algarve and have an opportunity to rent in Vila Real de Santo Real. We are afraid that we will be the only Expats in the off season? We are social people and want to make sure. Are there are things to do all year long? And others Expats?

Only been a few times during covid restrictions and seemed to be lots of restaurants with English food (eg English brekkies etc) and lots of people speaking English

Hi I lived in Vila Real for a year, there are some expats living there and also in Monte Gordo where I now live but if you are looking for a community of people I think you would be better off by extending your search further west. Tavira is about 20km away has more brits , There is also Silves, Vilamoura, Albufeira and Lagos which might suit you better. Here in the winter nothing much goes on. Hope that helps :)

Good options David, probably also worth adding  Almancil to that list.

Hi Lori  We spent a winter in VRSA and found it very quiet.  We didn't come across any British expats but there are quite a few Americans now settled there.  It's a great little town and the Portuguese are so nice but if you are going to stay for a year I'm sure you will bump into some English speaking people at some stage!  The beach is quite a distance to walk to but worth it as its so peaceful. Best of luck with your move!

We purchased property here in Vila Real de Santo Antonio in March 2022.  This will be our home.  There are other US citizens that live year round in VRSA.

Hi Yes have met many US citizens while there and they are a cheerful bunch but no IRISH so far!

Hi Daniel we should be in Vila Real after Christmas so look forward to meeting up! We've been going there for a good few years now but hope to find a small house apartment to spend our retirement.
