Hello, we travel with our dog every winter and have done various routes including the ferry to Bilbao. We now use the tunnel but please private message me and I can give you further details.

Hello Pat - I wonder if you could PM me also regarding bringing a dog from the U.K. to Portugal.  Many thanks

We travel regularly each summer with two large dogs in the car.

Our route is by ferry Portsmouth to Santander 30+ hours. Be aware you need to book early if you want a pet cabin with Brittany ferries otherwise you are stuck with your dog being in kennels.

We then travel through either northern Portugal (Chaves overnight) or central Portugal via (Salamanca, Spain over night). Total distance is approx. 650 miles in 10/11 hours with stops if done in one run.

Hope this helps.

We stay at the Ibis Hotel in central Salamanca which is a great location for all the attractions. They have a secure underground carpark.

There is also a large public park opposite the hotel where you can walk the dog.
