Hello everyone, I've been a frequent visitor to the Algarve for many years, though not in the last 5 years.

I'm looking to head over in October with my partner, possibly to the Tavira area as I've not explored the Eastern area of the Algarve. My partner also fancies a trip to Seville.

Can anyone advise on the situation regarding illegal immigrants? I know some areas of Europe are more affected than others. Any advice would be welcomed. Thank you.

Regards, Carl and Molly

What situation do you want to know?

Are they running around kidnapping babies and eating them?

Do you see any headlines regarding crimes from illegal immigrants?

Maybe turn off your internet browser and just enjoy Tavira, it is a lovely city.

Sevilla is about a 2 hr drive

I would not expect to see headlines on the matter as this would affect tourism, hence my enquiring on a forum. Are there any numbers in areas causing problems, approaching tourists for example was my concern.

There is civil unrest regarding them in many countries. Reports of them fighting with locals in Spain. No kidnapping of babies and eating them so far  fortunately, just raping and sexually assaulting children.

Thanks for the info 👍

But you don't see that here.

You will enjoy Tavira, I would even check out the city of Faro.

Maybe not to live but a lot of history to see.

Cheers, I'll look forward to it. I used to visit the Algarve 3 times a year for years, so I'm familiar with Central and Western areas. Having not been for many years I was curious.

Sorry I'm a little bit lost as to why the illegal immigrant situation is a concern to someone visiting for a holiday.

It's the same in Portugal as anywhere else in Europe.

The situation is only inflated by people who are generally prejudiced.

If you wish to visit a country that doesn't have any immigration issues, Russia and North Korea are two spots I could recommend.

Please leave your prejudice at home

Because I want to enjoy a hassle free vacation perhaps?

I can assure you that I have no prejudice towards illegal migrants per se, but am aware of some places being somewhat overwhelmed by them and in some cases causing hostilities.

I do not wish to spend a vacation feeling I have to be looking over my shoulder or being mithered. Unfortunate as it may be, the migrant situation is of great concern in many countries now.

I assume you're not "anywhere else in Europe" and do not make accusations!
