Passport expiry validity due to Brexit

Hi, I am due to travel to Portugal on 15th December with my mum but her passport expires in April 21. From what I can gather she is ok to travel to Portugal on that date and then also return to the UK in January despite not having 6 months left on her passport. My understanding is that from 1st Jan 21 you will need at least 6 months on your passport to travel TO Europe from the Uk, but not vice versa. Any info will be hugely appreciated! Please don't send links to UK Gov website or Post Office/Passport Office website as it is from these places I have made my assumption, it's other folk that are telling me differently. Obrigada! X
