I'm amazed that, for various reasons, there don't seem to be any of these houses in the Algarve. These would be wooden houses - usually relatively small - constructed by specialist teams of carpenters etc which take care of all the obvious requirements e.g. laying foundations, plumbing, electricity, roofing etc.
I'm concluding, rightly or wrongly, that Planning permission may be the problem.
Anybody know?
Some years ago I asked Lagos Camara about this. The answer was that these buildings had caused many fire problems for the bombeiros, and the executive had banned further construction.
The planning officer I spoke to agreed that it might be an outdated policy, but said it would need the full council to change it. There is no discretion granted to council officers.

I am not sure it is more than just a concept that they are not permanent, as the 'normal build' is from solid stone. I was not aware of any extra building restrictions over those of building a new stone/brick house.
I was looking at buying a plot and building a wooden house on it, but ended up buying a stone house needing refurbishment.
I was in contact with Jonas Jensen at Jensen Portugal ( build Danish wooden houses ) who design the house you want from some basic standard houses and cover all construction except the actual connection points to the plot supplies (water, electricity etc).

Hi, I did not complete the process as the land was 5km down a dirt track.
But Jensen would design the house around what I wanted and coordinate with the local planning requirements. Install the infrastructure to the closest point for connection (but not connect it).
I merged 2 of their standard houses into 1 T shape and moved the kitchen, toilet and bathrooms to have all the water at one side of the new design.
That was as far as we got, as I decided not to proceed with the plot purchase, but found a 100 year old house needing remodelling inside and a bit closer to the local community.
Maybe it just depends where you want to build your wooden house? More than the fact it is wooden??
