Most aspects of Portuguese life and society - and, in particular, the Algarve - I love......but there is no heaven on earth!

In my humble experience Portuguese auctioneers do a very bad, shoddy job for property sellers who, by the way, pay them about 5% of the selling price. To repeat, that's 5% of the eventual selling price - high by any worldly standards.

Yes, they do glossy, blue sky photos very well, internal and external, but how many disregard the aspect of the property concerned, especially as sun light is so fundimental to Portugal's attractions. Location is also very important but how many do not give accurate, exact locations? How many auctioneers dwell on the many ancillary expenses that apply to buyers, apart from the actual purchase price, approximated to be about 10% of the purchase price?

They seem to be only concerned with showing the property's assets and getting the potential buyer's contact details.

I'd be interested in non-Portuguese opinions.

I would agree with everything u say .

Most just want to secure the listing of the property so when another agent actually goes to the trouble of selling it they get slice of the commission for nothing .

I would just add that it’s not the only profession that exhibits bad traits , namely top of the list construction companies, architects, lawyers ,accountants.

Thanks, Sean.
