Hello all...I'm Dave and I'm new to the site today.

We've been coming to our little house (in Marmelete) for many years and every time we have had to hire a car at Faro airport. In the last 12 months alone this has cost us about £1400! Also, from next year I will be too old at 70 for many hire companies so the time has come for me and my wife Val to buy an older model Portuguese car. Our budget is limited, so, as the prices here are extremely high we reckon on something that was built around my 50th birthday! If you have, or know someone who has, a cheap(ish) vehicle then please do answer this post. If you can recommend a fairly local used car dealer that would help too. Many thanks for reading my sob story. Stay indoors and stay safe y'all.

Here's an original thought!

As you probably know there are non-Portuguese people, with their own cars, who spend a considerable amount of time in Portugal. Some of them choose to leave their cars parked long-term in Portugal when they go home. Wouldn't some of them love to have someone "exercise" their cars, say, twice a week in their absence.

I befriended one of them - a German  - who leaves his BMW behind and I have agreed to drive around his BMW about twice a week to exercise it, and, as I pay his insurance (with me as an insured additional driver) I'm insured to do so.

It's win-win all around - Beats the costs of car hire!
