Hi, Algarve lovers,

We over-winter in Lagos and return home to Ireland for Christmas every winter. Therefore, we hope to return to Lagos via Faro Airport around the 11th of this month.

Can you please tell us about the latest C19 restrictions in the Algarve? Will anything else be required at Faro Airport apart from completed Passenger Location forms? Is inter-municipality/county movement restricted? Has the normal Faro to/from Lagos train schedule been changed in any way?

Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance and patience.

Jazz

Hi Jazz, I am also trying to get back to Lagos from UK. However, the situation is changing all the time, and as I found out on Sunday, being interpreted differently by different companies and people when I was refused boarding because I did not have a negative Covid test. So, as far as I can tell you Portugal are only allowing Citizens and legal residents of Portugal or other EU state to enter, however, Ryanair were not checking this at check in. Although the gov.uk guidelines say you don’t need, and Ryanair do not tell you that you do need, a Negative Covid test they were not allowing anyone to board without one. They were however accepting NHS tests, but to be honest I would not risk this unless you are prepared to be refused boarding!

Good luck

Tony

Many thanks, Tony, for your lengthy reply. As we're flying with Ryanair (they're the only company we could get during the month of January) we're going to chance it with just our completed Passenger Location forms, which was a similar requirement when we flew to Faro last October - though it was never inspected on arrival.

I seriously would not gamble without a Covid test. There was a Portuguese girl they would not accept, I had an email from the British consulate in Portugal and they still would not let me on. I also called Ryanair from the desk and had my phone on speaker when they said that entry requirements were nothing to do with Ryanair, and they still would not accept. I am attaching the email they claim was from Ryanair.

Thanks again, Tony. I've read the regulations which exude the words "UK and tourists" but noting about little ol'Ireland! I'll check with Ryanair anyway as the Portuguese authorities advise.

Thanks, Tony, for your interest.

An Irish friend of mine and his wife flew into Faro Airport last saturday and told me there were no complications whatsoever - helped by the fact  that they were Irish! GB people were tested only because they were GB! No restrictions whatever on travelling between Faro Airport and Portimao once  they produced their flight details.
