We have bought a house in Martin Longo and would like to know how we go about paying for insurance, council tax and utilities.
We do not have a Portuguese bank account. We have heard bad things about having a bank account there.
Is it possible to pay directly from our accounts in England or do we need to open a Portuguese bank account? If so, which would you recommend?

Our real estate agent said they would help set up utilities. We needed the bank account for our residence permit D7 anyway so that was not an option
I can recommend Veronica Pisco, her office did everything with me from setting up a bank account, finding the perfect home, all registrations, insurances and taxes.
I am now happily semi retired, running a self employed freelance software developer company. My residence permit and RNH in place. My driving licence registered. My Portuguese will, in place with a notary. My 2023 tax return checked and submitted.
At each step I have had advice on best choices and where needed a Portuguese assistant by my side.
It is not free, but worth every cent to me.
