We are hoping to come to Tavira later this month and wondered what to expect when we arrive. ie does everyone wear masks all the time? Are bars and restaurants open as usual? Would we need to book to eat in  restaurants? Thank you

We are not in Tavira however in Pera, Central Algarve. We have been here for 4 weeks now, returning next weekend.

We have found it very safe here and more comfortable from Covid than being in the UK. Everyone here is taking the precautions extremely well with face coverings mandatory in shops, bars and restaurants.

We have found all bars and restaurants open and we tend to ensure we sit outside rather than inside to eat and drink. This means in more popular restaurants we have booked one or two days in advance to be on the safe side.

Beaches are relatively busy but at a safe distance. The main thing we have found this year is the lack of Brits here on holiday and generally all resorts are less busy than normal for this time of year.

We are not looking forward to returning to the UK as we feel safer here. Also I just do not understand why the UK Gov have decided to leave Portugal off the safe countries to visit, especially in the Algarve. This means we have to quarantine when we get back and currently have no travel insurance. We are relying on our EHIC card in case of emergencies but having our own holiday home makes it much more safer to enjoy our holiday.

Hope this helps.
